Struggling to sleep? Read on for simple tips for promoting sleep and suggested crystals to aid sleep

Are you struggling to sleep? Do you wake up several times in the night? Does your mind run away with itself reliving every moment of the day or focusing on what you need to do tomorrow? Maybe you just can't switch off during lockdown?

First of all take some comfort from knowing that you are not alone! Insomnia is a common issue that many adults face at some time in their lives.

If you are struggling with insomnia please seek medical advice.

It is worth checking out the NHS insomnia webpage which includes a sleep self-assessment tool, guidance on how much sleep we need and advice on when to contact a GP (

There are things you can try at home to help build your own relaxation routine and promote restful sleep:

* Avoid alcohol, caffeine or other stimulants, especially before bed

* Try establishing a bedtime routine so you feel in control and your body gets into a rhythm

* Avoid watching TV, checking social media or reading the news before bed

* Take a relaxing bath or shower to help you unwind

* Try yoga, mindfulness or meditation to help you relax

* Check the temperature of the room you sleep in and make sure it is not too hot or cold

* Try to keep noise levels as low as possible and switch phones to sleep mode

* Block out any light by closing curtains or using a light weight eye mask

* Place some Lavender in a small pouch by the side of the bed or under the pillow

There are a number of crystals that are said to help with sleep and several ways in which you can use them. Crystals could be placed on your bedside table so that the energy from the crystal is close to you. They could be placed in a small bag or pouch under your pillow or directly inside your pillowcase. You could set up a crystal grid with the intention of restful sleep or you could even wear them in the form of a bracelet or stud earrings (I wouldn't recommend wearing any form of necklace or anything around your neck whilst sleeping).

It is worth remembering that crystals don't always have the same effect on everyone. We are all individuals with our own energy, and one person may find a crystal helpful for sleep, but another person may not. I would suggest you choose one crystal to start with and see what effect it has before trying another. Having tried a number of crystals and combinations, I now use three different crystals with the addition of some dried Lavender, in an organza bag which I place under my pillow.

I have listed a few crystals below that are said to aid sleep, try them for yourself and leave a comment to let me know what works and doesn't work for you.

If you are new to crystals and wan't to purchase any of these, or if you are familiar with the benefits of crystals but don't have the below in your collection, you will be able to purchase a Sleep Easy Crystal Kit in my online shop which is coming soon.

Crystals for sleep:

  • Amethyst - This is my go to crystal for relaxing and is my number one favourite crystal for helping me to sleep. Amethyst is known as the natural tranquilliser and I find it has a calming energy that relaxes the mind and promotes deep and restful sleep. Amethyst is excellent at relieving worries, anxiety and stress. It is also a great aid to meditation.

  • Howlite - What isn't there to love about White Howlite? This crystal is a gentle stone with a peaceful energy. It is said to calm an overactive mind, relieve stress and release tension in your muscles, allowing the body to relax. Given its relaxing abilities, White Howlite has been associated with promoting a deep and calming sleep.

  • Lepidolite - With a high Lithium content, Lepidolite promotes a relaxed state and has been associated with alleviating anxiety and depression. Lepidolite has an ability to create an inner calm and peace. With its soothing energy, it can help to reduce an overactive mind and promote restful sleep. Lepidolite is also said to reduce the occurrence of nightmares.

  • Mangano Calcite - I absolutely love this soft pink stone and the energy that it emits. Known as a stone of peace and tranquility it has a soothing energy that helps to reduce fears and prevent nightmares. It is a great stone for reducing emotional distress (particularly grief) and relieving anxiety.

Other crystals associated with a better nights sleep include Selenite, Celestite, Labradorite, Moonstone, Clear Quartz, Smoky Quartz, Charoite and Hematite.
